The name Sunriver conjures up images of sunshine and relaxation. Located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, Sunriver minutes away from the city end and Mt. Bachelor and is a 3 hour-ish drive from Portland. It is the perfect family get away location if you’re looking for a vacation that will keep you close to home and won’t break the bank.
When we want to go on a vacation, but stay close to home Sunriver is our top choice in the Northwest. It’s a different experience every time. No matter the time of year there is always something to do to keep you busy and entertained. Sunriver is a natural beauty with hiking, biking, swimming, horseback riding, golfing and even a Nature Center and Observatory to keep you entertained. Not to mention it is a skiers paradise with Mt Bachelor nearby.
There are many hotel and home rental options in SunRiver, but a cheap roadside motel to high end luxury hotels and vacation homes to fit your budget. We have rented homes on 3 different vacations and have been extremely happy with the price and the amenities that come with renting a house.
Our favorite part of Sunriver is how easy it is to get around. There are miles of biking/walking paths that make it super safe and easy to get around. You can take the paths to the Village area where you will find shopping, restaurants, a market, mini golf, bike rentals and even ice skating in the winter. Another fun attraction in Sunriver is the Sharc Swim center. There is an outside pool area with a lazy river and a water slide that will keep you and your kids entertained for hours. We visited a couple years ago when there was snow still on the ground and they had the outdoor area open and heated. My son had a blast in the lazy river and riding on the slide.
Sunriver is just a quick 15-20 minute drive into the City of Bend. Bend is known for their River Walk shopping and dining area, brewpub tours and of course a base camp for skiers.
